The Genre That Changed Everything

Afrobeat Is the Sound of a Generation.

Afrobeat has become one of the fastest-growing genres in the world — dominating global charts, filling international arenas, and shaping pop music on every continent. Producers are at the centre of that movement.

The question is not whether the world wants Afrobeat. The question is who is going to produce the next generation of it.

That is exactly why this academy exists.

🌍
Global ReachAfrobeat artists now regularly top charts across Africa, Europe, North America, and beyond — with demand for new production talent at an all-time high.
🎵
Industry OpportunityThe Nigerian music industry is valued in the billions and growing. Skilled producers who understand the genre's DNA are in constant demand.
🏆
Your MomentThere has never been a better time to be an Afrobeat producer. The genre is global. The tools are accessible. The only thing missing is structured training.
🎓
Built for ThisAfrobeat Academy is the only institution in the world dedicated exclusively to training professional Afrobeat music producers.

A Visit From Don Jazzy

When Africa's Most Respected Music Executive Walked Through Our Doors.

In June 2026, Don Jazzy — founder of Mavin Records and one of the most celebrated producers in African music history — visited Afrobeat Academy. He sat at the workstations. He went through the curriculum. He saw what we are building.

"
Once dem don dry graduate, let me know — we sef dey look for producers for Mavin.
Don Jazzy, Founder, Mavin Records · June 2026

That visit reinforced exactly why we are building this academy. To develop the next generation of Afrobeat producers — and connect them directly to the industry that needs them.

🏅
The Mavin Records Talent Pipeline

Graduate Here. Get Noticed by Mavin.

Every producer who graduates from Afrobeat Academy enters the Mavin Records talent pipeline. Don Jazzy has personally committed to reviewing our graduates. This is not a promise any other music school in the world can make.

Why We Built This

Most Producers Never Learn the Right Way.

After building one of the most trusted Afrobeat production communities in the world — with over 60 sample packs used by producers in more than 100 countries — one thing became obvious.

Most aspiring producers were not failing because they lacked talent. They were failing because they lacked structure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything You Need to Know.

Do I need prior music experience to join? +
For the Production programme — no experience required at all. We start from zero: music theory, software setup, and the fundamentals. Many students start with no formal music background. For the Mixing & Mastering programme, basic music production knowledge is recommended — ideally you can already make a rough beat.
Can I enroll in both programmes at the same time? +
Yes — and this is actually the recommended path for serious producers. The Production programme runs on Wednesday and Saturday, while Mixing & Mastering runs on Tuesday and Thursday. There is zero scheduling conflict. Doing both simultaneously means you apply mixing knowledge to what you are producing in real time, which accelerates your development significantly.
What if I miss a live class? +
Every live session is recorded and uploaded to your personal student dashboard within 24 hours. You can watch the full replay at any time. You can also post questions about the session content directly in the Module Q&A section of your dashboard and your instructor will respond. That said, live attendance is strongly encouraged — the real-time interaction is a large part of the value.
What are the class times? +
Class times for both programmes will be confirmed before the September cohort begins. Enrolled students will receive their full schedule and calendar links via the student dashboard and email. Physical students (Lagos studio) and online students have separate class times to accommodate both groups. Sign up now to secure your place and you will be notified of confirmed times as soon as they are set.
How do I pay and what payment plans are available? +
You can enroll directly from this page using the Apply Now buttons. Both the Production and Mixing & Mastering programmes offer a 2-instalment payment plan — 50% at enrollment to secure your place, and the remaining 50% before the third month begins. The Full Producer Bundle (both programmes) is also available. For payment enquiries or bank transfer options, contact us via WhatsApp on +2348122104424 or email hello@afrobeatacademy.com.
Will I receive a certificate? +
Yes. Students who complete all modules, maintain the required attendance, and submit their final capstone project receive a Certificate of Completion from Afrobeat Academy and Afrobeat Producers Limited. Your certificate is downloadable directly from your student dashboard. Both programmes carry their own separate certificate — enrolling in both earns you two.
Is there a minimum age requirement? +
The minimum age is 13 years old. Students between 13 and 17 are enrolled under our Young Producer category and require written parental or guardian consent before enrollment is confirmed. There is no upper age limit — we welcome producers at every stage of life.
I am based outside Nigeria — can I still enroll? +
Absolutely. The Online Live Cohort for both programmes is open to students worldwide. We have students joining from the UK, the USA, Canada, Ghana, South Africa, and beyond. The Mixing & Mastering programme is online only. The Production programme offers both a physical Lagos option and an online option accessible from anywhere in the world.
Mac or Windows — which computer do I need for Production? +
The course runs entirely on FL Studio, available on both Windows and Mac. Every student — Physical and Online — uses the same software, the same curriculum, and works toward the same certification. Physical students at the Afrobeat Academy Studio have FL Studio installed on all studio computers — equipment is provided.
What equipment do I need for the Online Production programme? +
You need a computer running FL Studio, a pair of closed-back headphones, and a stable internet connection. An audio interface and MIDI keyboard (49 keys recommended) are strongly encouraged but not mandatory from Day 1. Module 3 of the curriculum is entirely dedicated to home studio setup and covers what to buy at every budget — including how to avoid fake gear commonly sold in Nigerian markets.
What is the Mavin Records talent pipeline? +
In June 2026, Don Jazzy — founder of Mavin Records — visited Afrobeat Academy and committed to personally reviewing producers who graduate from our programme. Every student who successfully completes the Production programme and submits their capstone project enters the Mavin Records talent pipeline. This opportunity is exclusive to Afrobeat Academy graduates. It is not a guarantee of a record deal, but it means your music will be heard by one of the most influential executives in African music.
What is the Physical programme like? +
The Physical programme takes place at the Afrobeat Academy Studio in Lagos — a purpose-built production facility with individual workstations, iMacs, professional MIDI keyboards, studio monitors, audio interfaces, and full acoustic treatment. Maximum 6 students per batch means you always have the instructor's direct attention. It is the most immersive and personalised option we offer.
What will I produce by the end of the course? +
Every student completes a final capstone project — a complete, original, professional-quality Afrobeat track produced entirely from scratch with no provided loops or MIDI. By graduation you will have built the track from drums to melody to arrangement to rough mix, exported it as a WAV and MP3, and presented it to the cohort. This becomes the cornerstone of your production portfolio.
Who is MillaMix and why does it matter that he is teaching? +
MillaMix is one of Nigeria's most respected mixing and mastering engineers. He is Grammy-nominated — recognised for his work on Burna Boy's "Higher" — and his credits include Wizkid, Davido, Kizz Daniel, Ruger, and many more of the biggest Afrobeats artists working today. When you take this course, you are learning the exact workflows and decision-making processes that have been used on records that have collectively been streamed billions of times.
Do I need a specific DAW for Mixing & Mastering? +
No — and this is one of the things that makes this programme unique. The Mixing & Mastering programme is fully DAW-agnostic. MillaMix teaches the fundamentals of mixing: how to hear, how to make decisions, and how to understand what any plugin is doing to any sound. These skills work in Logic Pro, FL Studio, Pro Tools, Ableton, or any other DAW. You use whatever software you already have.
Why are there 3 sessions per week in the first two weeks? +
The first two weeks of the Mixing & Mastering programme cover signal flow, gain staging, EQ, compression, and the fundamental philosophy of mixing — the concepts that underpin every single thing you do in a mix session. MillaMix felt strongly that these fundamentals deserve more time than a 2-session-per-week pace allows. Getting these right from the start means everything that follows is faster and more intuitive. The extra sessions in weeks 1 and 2 bring the total to 26 sessions across 3 months.
What equipment do I need for Mixing & Mastering? +
A computer with any DAW installed, a pair of studio-quality closed-back headphones, and a stable internet connection for online students. An audio interface is strongly recommended for accurate monitoring. Studio monitors are ideal but not required — the programme covers how to get reliable results on headphones when monitors are not available. The most important piece of equipment is your ears, and this programme trains them.
What will I be able to do when I graduate from Mixing & Mastering? +
You will be able to take a multi-track Afrobeats session, set up a professional mixing workflow from scratch, process every element to commercial standards, reference against major releases, and deliver a mastered track that meets streaming platform loudness requirements. You will also understand how to work with clients professionally — delivering mixes, handling revisions, and building a career as a mix engineer.
Is the Mixing & Mastering programme available in person at the Lagos studio? +
The Mixing & Mastering programme is currently offered as an online live cohort. Sessions take place via Google Meet on Tuesday and Thursday each week. Physical attendance at the Lagos studio is available for select sessions — details will be confirmed with enrolled students before the cohort begins.
