Everything You Need to Know.
Do I need any prior music experience? +
No experience is required. The curriculum starts from the very beginning — music theory, software setup, and the fundamentals of Afrobeat — and builds progressively. Many of our students start with no formal music training.
Mac or Windows — which do I need? +
Both are supported. The Logic Pro pathway requires a Mac. The FL Studio pathway is available on Windows and Mac. Both pathways cover the same 14-module curriculum and lead to the same certification.
What if I miss a live class? +
Every live class is recorded and uploaded to your personal dashboard within 24 hours. You can watch the full replay, and continue participating through the module Q&A on your dashboard.
What is the payment plan? +
We offer a 2-instalment plan for both the Physical and Online programmes. The first instalment is due at enrollment, and the second is due before the start of Month 3. Access to Month 3 classes requires the second payment to be completed.
How long does the course take? +
The full 14-module curriculum runs over approximately 3 months, with 2 live classes per week for a total of 26 sessions. The self-paced course has no deadline — you progress at your own speed.
What equipment do I need for the online programme? +
A laptop or desktop computer running Logic Pro (Mac) or FL Studio (Windows/Mac), a pair of headphones, and a stable internet connection. Module 3 covers home studio setup at every budget level — including what to buy and what to skip.
What is the Mavin Records talent pipeline? +
During his visit to Afrobeat Academy in June 2026, Don Jazzy — founder of Mavin Records — committed to personally reviewing producers who graduate from our programme. Every graduate's work is submitted to the Mavin Records talent pipeline. This is exclusive to Afrobeat Academy.
Will I get a certificate? +
Yes. Students who complete all 14 modules and submit their final capstone project receive a Certificate of Completion from O.Y Productions and Afrobeat Academy, downloadable directly from your student dashboard.
Is a Self-Paced course available? +
A self-paced pre-recorded course is currently in development and will be available soon. Join our mailing list or follow @afrobeatacademy on Instagram to be notified when it launches.
Is the Physical programme only for people in Lagos? +
The Physical programme requires attendance at our Lagos studio. It is open to anyone willing to be physically present in Lagos for the duration of the 3-month programme. If you are outside Lagos, the Online Live Cohort gives you the same curriculum and certification.
